Portrait of Elvis Costello

Being a fan of Elvis Costello, I always wanted to do a pencil portrait of him. I based this one on a small photograph that I found in a magazine.

I thought it would be fun to 'frame' him with some kind of border, and let the top of his head stick out, so it would have a bit more of a dimensional effect.

Most of his face was done in graphite pencil, with colored pencil for background and the sunglass lenses. I love how his mischievous eyes still show through the dark glasses. I used Micron/Pigma ink pen for the eyeglass frames and the border.
