The Detroit Institute of Arts was the first art museum I ever visited. I went through it with my parents in about 1978.  60,000 works of art! It was stunning!  A big moment was seeing John Singer Sargeant's 'Madame X'portrait among some of his other works when a collection was there on loan. I walked around there all day, with my head tilted back, mouth hanging open, looking at everything. Worth a trip to Detroit in itself. - Darla
